Desmond Hotel has Security Breach Identified and Corrected
The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Albany, New York, has identified and corrected a serious data Security Breach of its computer system that was recently discovered. The security breach involved international hackers gaining access to The Desmond’s computer system to obtain cardholder information used for reservations or payment of a guest room between May 21, 2011 and March 10, 2012. Additional steps have also been taken to prevent another compromise from happening again. The Desmond has advised the NYS Attorney General’s office and the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies Experian, Equifax and TransUnion of the situation and has given them a general report alerting them to the fact that this incident occurred.
Guests of The Desmond during that time period between May 21, 2011 and March 10, 2012 may have had credit and/or debit card information compromised and are being strongly encouraged by The Desmond to immediately take preventative measures including contacting credit card companies, banks/financial institutions, the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies mentioned above, as well as to review their account statements and immediately report any suspicious activity. The staff and management at The Desmond offer their sincerest apology for the concern and inconvenience this has caused. The Desmond continues to work with the U.S. Secret Service and its recommended cyber security firm on this matter.
